Satellite Derived Measurements of Coastal Water Chlorophyll-a Variability
نویسنده
چکیده
Variability of Chlorophyll-a (Chl-a) were intensively investigated at the coastal water inPahang Malaysia. Data of Chl-a derived from Aqua MODIS satellite at 1 km spatial resolution from January 2006 to December 2010 was processed to climatological images. The seasonal progressions of Chl-a distribution during the monsoon period shows that high values were detected during the Northeast monsoon and spread over a wide region. The spatial and temporal dynamics of Chl-a were explained using an analysis of Empirical Orthogonal Function. The first EOF mode explains 76 % of the total variance which indicated the seasonal cycle with high variability along the coast and the mouth of Pahang River. The second EOF mode explains variability of the Southwest and the Northeast monsoon with 4.18 % of variance. The third EOF mode indicates about 2.08 % of total variance explaining more on the Northeast monsoon that shows the Chl-a distributed along-shelf direction. Mode 4 of Chl-a EOF explained the inter-monsoon period with 1.37 % of total variance showing high variability at the river mouth (positive signal) and along the coast (negative signal). Variability of Chl-a in this area was influenced by river outflow, wind forcing and terrestrial discharge.

متن کاملMapping spatial variability of soil salinity in a coastal area located in an arid environment using geostatistical and correlation methods based on the satellite data
Saline lakes can increase the soil and water salinity of the coastal areas. The main aim of this study is to distinguish the characteristics of the spectral reflectance of saline soil, analyze the statistical relationship between soil EC and characteristics of the spectral reflectance of saline soil, and to map soil salinity east of the Maharloo Lake. The correlation between field measurements ...

متن کاملAssessing Chlorophyll-a in the Southwestern Coastal Waters of the Caspian Sea
Caspian Sea with an average depth of 27m is the largest enclosed water body in the world. Despite its enormity and valuable biotic and economic resources, investigations on the biota and seawater properties are mosaic at best. In previous studies, the monitoring of the chlorophyll-a concentrations in the Southern Caspian Sea was organized based on satellite data sets however, vertical dis...
متن کاملEVALUATING THE VALIDITY OF SeaWiFS CHLOROPHYLL ALGORITHM FOR COASTAL WATERS
The SeaWiFS ocean colour sensor on board the SeaStar (Orbview 2) satellite is able to derive the chlorophyll concentration in the surface sea water. The chlorophyll algorithm employed is based on the ratio of radiance or reflectance measured in the blue and green spectral bands. Regression between the band ratio and the in-situ measurements of chlorophyll values gives the coefficients for the r...
